7.3 Powerstroke Oil Cooler Massive Fail (Full Vid)
This truck was a mess. The oil cooler had failed, and was replaced with an inferior part by a shop that didn't know any better. Then, it failed again. That's when I got the call and fixed it with OEM parts. Always use OEM parts when they're available!

This Problem Was 100% Preventable (Full video coming soon!)
Переглядів 1354 роки тому
I'm in the process of editing the full video of this disgusting mess of a failure on a 7.3 Powerstroke. In case you hadn't guessed from the footage, this was a failed oil cooler. It had been replaced, improperly and with inferior parts, just about six weeks prior. I did not do the previous replacement, fortunately. Music by audionautix.com
7.3 Powerstroke Diesel Misfire, P1316
Переглядів 18 тис.4 роки тому
This video shows a common trouble spot for the 7.3 Powerstroke, and how to remedy it. The main wiring harness to the engine passes above the left valve cover, and has a tendency to chafe there. This can cause misfires, P1316 trouble codes, and can possibly cause the injector driver module to take a whole cylinder bank offline.

6.0 Liter Powerstroke Head Gaskets - So Much Fun, I Did it Twice! (Wrong Glow Plugs!)
Переглядів 7 тис.5 років тому
This is what happens when a head gasket replacement goes all pear-shaped. It started when a dealership supplied the wrong glow plugs, but in reality, there's more to it than just that. This was a perfect storm of unfortunate, cascading events leading up to lifting the cab and pulling the heads twice. The truck ran well when it was dropped off. There was really no reason to suspect a valvetrain ...

6 0 Powerstroke Fuel Injector Removal and Installation

In this video, I show in detail how to change an injector on the 6.0 liter Powerstroke Diesel in a 2003 Ford F350. This video doesn't cover removal of the valve cover or other accessories. In the video, I misstate the size of the hold down bolts as T45 Torx. On a 2003 or early 2004, they are T40. 2004.5 - 2007 are T45.
Ford A/C Compressor Blowing Fuses - Root Cause Found
Переглядів 69 тис.8 років тому
A 2005 Ford Expedition with a 5.4 liter engine was blowing the fuse for the air conditioning compressor every time the PCM commanded the compressor ON. I started checking for shorts in the wiring by disconnecting various parts and checking resistance, but found nothing out of the ordinary. I reconnected everything except the field coil and the fuse stayed intact. Connected the field coil again ...
7.3 Powerstroke Misfire - How to determine wear by armature plate clearance
Переглядів 37 тис.8 років тому
This is both a tribute to DieselTechRon, and a follow up to the 7.3 liter Powerstroke buzz test video I put up a while back. In this video, I demonstrate how to check the injector for lower poppet valve seat wear by checking the clearance between the armature plate and poppet valve body. A worn lower seat can cause a cold misfire that suddenly clears up as the engine comes up to temperature. Th...

The rubber wheel heats the stripe up and rubs it off at the same tim...

This valve cover gasket was on a 2001 F350 with a 7.3 Powerstroke diesel that had a severe misfire. It had to be started with ether, and would barely stay running. The truck didn't even have enough power to move itself. mechanic charge full price of compressor when they can get half of the cost by returning the core/your old compressor.

    • @PikachuG5
      @PikachuG5 Місяць тому

      There's generally no core charge for a brand new part, only for remanufactured parts. There are exceptions, but not a lot. Any shop that collects the core charge from a customer and doesn't give the customer the part is unethical and probably doing so illegally.

    My #6 is not as loud as the other 7 and all of my injectors are brand new along with new cups, new glowplugs, new batteries and all new battery cables, new high torque low amp starter, a rebuilt fuel bowl, new HOP, IPC, IPR, new Riffraff crossover kit, new sump / deleted pickup assembly, new fuel pump, rebuilt turbo & pedestal, new valve cover gaskets and wiring harnesses and my ‘03 7.3 will not even fire. $7000 of parts and I am at a complete loss of ideas.

      Ok, start with the basics. Are you getting the wait to start light? Any DTCs pop up after cranking? How long have you cranked it? Do you have an OBD adapter and software to monitor live data?

      It took all day, and I had to borrow a high amp battery starter from a friend to get it to start. Turns out it just had a lot of air in the system. I have an OBDLinkMX+ but I have not figured out to populate the Forscan app yet to show live data such as HPOP pressure and oil pressure as computer tech is not in my wheel house. I am looking online now to buy a full bank of gauges to install that shows all pressures on individual gauges that I will mount on my dashboard.@@PikachuG5

Also did the construction test and shows #4 and #6#8 sometimes, can my ipr valve cause this problem is around 5 or 6 % at normal temperature.

    Can you ohm test each injector on a table like that with out having plugged into uvch?

    • @PikachuG5
      @PikachuG5 10 місяців тому

      I suppose you could, but it wouldn't tell you anything about the resistance of the connector. Of course, the resistance also doesn't reveal internal mechanical wear either.

  • @shadowopsairman1583
    @shadowopsairman1583 11 місяців тому

    2-5 Ohms is the resistance value of the coil. So 10 amp fuse blows, and the circuit is 12-14VDC the resistance value is less than 2 Ohms. So it's going to be 1.2-1.4 Ohms Or less, which allows too fast of a current which builds heat damaging wires if no fuse is installed.

    So what if a new ac compressor is put in 07 saturn aura and the fuse keeps blowing?

    • @PikachuG5
      @PikachuG5 Рік тому

      I've never worked on a Saturn, but the way I diagnosed this was to disconnect the harness to the field coil and turn on the A/C. When the fuse didn't blow, I knew where the short was (but not what was causing it, exactly). If the fuse had blown with the coil disconnected, I'd have followed the wiring back to the next connector and repeated the process.

    I think I just figured it out. The up stop hasn't changed. Also couldn't it leak oil past the seat after shimming?

    • @PikachuG5
      @PikachuG5 Рік тому

      I've never heard of that happening. I can't think of a way shimming could cause a leak. I suppose it's possible on an injector that has extreme wear, but I'd have to believe the armature plate would hit the coil and cause DTCs first.

    Hello, Recently my 2005 ford focus TDCI started missing while driving in town (engine warm I think). I listened (engine cold) to the injectors with a stethescope and one was quieter than the others. It just so happens that I cleaned and replaced the gaskets on this injector about a year or two ago because it was leaking. It had been repaired by the dealer twice. They damaged the seat the first time and in less than a year's time they had to correct their error. That job lasted for another year or so and an independant mechanic refused to do the job because he was the one who found the damaged seat and wanted nothing to do with the car. So that's why I did it. I know that if the injector is replaced it needs to be programmed. Would I be able to do this with FORScan? If so, will I need to purchase license? Thanx
